Rockets general manager Daryl Morey took the unusual step Thursday of issuing a statement that the team has not had any trade discussions with the Los Angeles Lakers involving Kobe Bryant . Any such conversations, mind you, would have to entail the Rockets giving up Yao Ming or Tracy McGrady.
Think the Rockets are about to part with Yao? Of course, not. That would leave T-Mac as the only plausible starting point for any Bryant dealt that Morey insists isn't going to happen any way. Morey is on record calling McGrady ``the most talented player in the league'' and forecasts a huge season for him in Rick Adelman's system.
After the Rockets' Friday morning shootaround, McGrady said ``it means a lot'' for the GM to so emphatically dismiss any trade scenarios.
``Any player who's comfortable with where he's at -- loves the city, loves his teammates, the coaching staff, the organization, everything about it - would definitely have problems when there are trade rumors about him circling around,'' McGrady said. ``It would be on your mind. It would affect you. Going into the season, you don't want that on your player. I'm glad that he buried that right away so I can have the peace of mind to go out and play basketball.''
Another strange twist to it all is that the Rockets open their season Tuesday in Los Angeles, against Bryant's Lakers.
LinkGood to hear the Rockets aren't going after Kobe. I love Kobe but I doubt he'd fit in the team unless he passed.
